Child and Youth Development (CYD)

Over the past 13 years the KET has been identifying and establishing a model for development programmes offered in such a manner as to build self-esteem, re-establish and kindle self-worth while demanding commitment and discipline to excel and flourish.

The CYD is a multiyear after-school program. Students enter the program at the age of 7 or 8 and are served through primary and secondary school. The orginal programme has been redesigned to focus on learners development of life skills through various disciplines. The programme is divided into three smaller programmes that focus on the various disciplines.

The Karoo Eisteddfod gives learners an opportunity for self-expression through music, dance, drama, and writing. The Karoo Eisteddfod 2019 entries open the 1st of May 2019. Learners or teacher can contact KET to receive a copy of the syllabus. Learners can also enjoy ballet classes at the Khazimla center.

Sports Programme

KET present sports and recreation activities in Emthanjeni. Recently KET started a community soccer team for learners in De Aar. The coach of the team is a local member of the community. Karoo Tennis Kidz and Karoo Kidz teaches learners to play tennis, swim and the importance of water safety.

Literacy Programme

The literacy programme support learners with their education, career choices and help learners who struggle with learning. Learners in the Emthanjeni community can enjoy the libary that has opened at our Khazimla - center of excellence. Learners can visit KET if they are in need of extra support in any subject.

The CYD programme focuses on addressing the most common developmental needs of children and youth through the following objectives:

  • A Life skills program which impacts on various outcomes.
  • To provide age-appropriate, developmentally sound activities that ensure the all-round development of the child and youth.
  • To encourage the development of self-esteem and self-worth in every person.
  • To provide a learning environment where children and young people are exposed to programs that help them to make healthy and socially acceptable life choices.
  • To create an environment where children can develop self-confidence, self-esteem and develop to social skills.
  • To improve grade results and matric outcomes for school-going children and better opportunities after Grade 12.
