The KET offers a highly successful Young Adult Enrolment and Placement Programme to the youth of the Central Karoo region. The program identifies previously disadvantaged learners from designated groups with academic potential who want to study at university level or obtain skills training. In this programme the KET offers multiple levels of assistance at various stages of the student’s academic career from the age of 15 till after graduation and placement. During their studies, students are offered mentorship from within the KET, vacation work in the community, and are placed on a part time basis within the various sectors as preparation for the working world. The intention is that once the students graduate, they would be placed for employment.
Talented candidates also have the opportunity to be financed by the Karoo Bursary Fund. This fund has been created in 2015 through voluntary donations made by staff and private business, where the only obligation placed on the selected students is to pass their chosen course of study and work for 3 weeks per year in the community. The Karoo Bursary Fund is co-managed between the KET as administrator and the private sector company as funder.
